Problems with deleting tags

By the way, what message do you get from WinCC when you try to delete file ? What version of WinCC do you have ? Maybe you need to install any patches andhotfixes to it ?

So, If it is a structure tag that you have created then delete it in the structure tag section of WinCC Explorer. Structure tag can only be deleted from there. regards

I had the same trouble few years ago when our customer badly imported structured tags. That time I solved it by deletion directly in the database, notwith theresources of WinCC, but unfortunatelly don't remember how exactly it was and I don't have installed it now to test it. If you or some of your colleagues are familiar with databases then I hope you could solve it, or hopefully somebody here could describe the exact procedure. Regards Sydney

With Best Regards Edma Dear Ema, Having a dot in a tag name, behaves like a structure tag, hence you first simply need to creat a structure tag in a such a formate that can creat a tag which would be same a existing one in dot format. I forget that in my case the dot was at the end of atagname (they created tag just with instance name and the dot, without structure part) so the solution with creating a new structure tag accordingly was impossible to use . But anyway I forget to it, thinking just about my case, thanks rit03 for posting. Because I was in doubt, went for PC with the WinCC installed and tried it (WinCC V6.0 SP3a). As supposed Iwasn'tallowed to write the dot into a tag name in the properties dialog, but when you just click ona tag (or press F2) it's possible to rename it also with the dot insertion . Importing case is clear, it can be imported with the dot. Deletion of unwanted tag: 1) If it looks likea part of a structure tag then the solution could be as rit03 suggested, create the new structure with part you have after dot inside, then try tocreate the new structured tag according to tag name before the dot and it will delete the "standalone structurepart" which already exists (the new structure tag is not created). 2) If it doesn't look like a part of structure tag (e.g. dot at the end or something else) thenopen the project in WinCC,start the SQL Server Enterprise Manager (can be found in the Windows start menu, Programs folder, Microsoft SQL Server)and find the database of affected project (normally under the server <Computername>\WINCC in "Databases" folder). There are two databases, choose the first, without "R" at the end. Open the table "MCPTVARIABLEDESC", there are all the tags which were created (including that which were already deleted from WinCC, but still there are in the database), choose and delete the unwantedtag. Then close and reopen the project in WinCC explorer. Hope this won't screw up the project . Regards Sydney

Edma Posts: 11 Rating: (0)	Dear All, I have tried to create the structure and later on to create a tag, but then I'm trieng to create the tag of the same name wincc don't like it. So I think I will use Sydneys second proposal and will delete directly from database. My idea in the begging was to delete the tag from the database but I was unable to finde the place where the tags are store. Thanks for all tips

You could make use of the "CC_VariableExportImport" tool if required to export and re-import your tags back into WinCC. Attaching the tool here, for your perusal. Regards, Krrish !!
