Profibus card removed error

Jtrainor Experienced Member Joined: 11/11/2011 Last visit: 8/11/2023 Posts: 63 Rating: (1)	Hi We are working on a 1200 jobthat has the following hardware config: 1214 CPU FW 2.2 Profibus CM1243-5 V1.0 RS485 card DI Card AI Card AQ Card The problem is that every so often (for no apparent reason) the CPU goes into stop saying that the profibus card is removed. We thought that maybe the 24VDC supply we were using wasnt man enough for the job so have replace it but are still seeing the same issue. The site is in remote australia :o and my collegeue doesnt have a spare profibus card. Any suggections apprecited. JT

JT First thing is to submit your Support Requestto see if there is a known resolution to the problem. Second is to position the PB module closest to the PLC (updating the project hardware layout to match). Third is to put in hardware error handling to tolerate the hardware problem for a short period of time. It may be the module is ok but is reporting a problem with the profibus or a field device. Are you certain it is the module? The PB module LEDs blink the same whether it is the module, the network, or a field device (at least that's the way it happened during my testing). I put in logic to detect the problem and for short periods of time to properly handle it without requiring a power cycle. Have you verified the integrity of the PB cabling, terminations? Is it possible there is vibration causing the module to lose connectivity for a brief amount of time?

We have logged the case with SIemens, because of the bacnk holiday I have been speaking to someone inn Germany but at present there are no known issues. Have tried connecting only the profibus module but still see the same issue. The profibus is directly to the left with the 485 next to that. We have OB82 in the configuration but the CPU still goes into stop mode. Can you recommend any other error handling options? Thanks JT

Jtrainor Experienced Member Joined: 11/11/2011 Last visit: 8/11/2023 Posts: 63 Rating: (1)	As a follow on: The customer has checked the integrity of his cabling and earthing and everything is good from that point of view. He has tried supplying the analogue input cards and the profibus master from the same 24 VDC and also tying his 0VDC to common ground. The problem still exists. He has since been at 2 machines in USA with the same configuration and is seeing the same problem on both of these. Siemens have now recommended updating the FW of the profibus master from 1.1 to 1.2 and that this should be compatible with CPU FW 2.2. If anyone has had similar experiences and seen improvements with applying this upgrade I would be very interetsed to know. Thanks JT

The effect: The CPU goes to stop. The salesman said what siemesn change "free of charge" the firmware of all CPU we have. I'm waiting for a writed answer....I'll inform Regards
