blues Posts: 7 Rating: (0)	Hi everyone, our plant communication is on profibus DP for which i like to know: > Whether the data traffic form particular node affects the scan time of the bus. As per my knowledge in Profibus communication the Master polls between different nodes and communicating with one particular node it TX/RX 244 bytes of data.Now if this is the case then we only need to limit 24 -32 devices on one segment irrespective of the data exchanged with node as normally in indutrial application we dont TX/RX data more than 15 byte except the PLC's I hope someone can clarify this issue.

As you told, a DP Master polls slaves in a round robin. The more you have slaves, the longer the rotation time will be. Of course the amount sent by each slave is to be considered. By limiting the number of devices on the bus, you can limit the rotation time. Do not forget that more time is needed if you add other Masters on the bus like a programming device, or a visualization system.
