RichWargo Posts: 16 Rating: (0)	What options are available for DPv1 on an S7-300 platform other than the DP port onboard the CPU? CP342-5 only supports DPv0, thus not supporting configuration over the Profibus, only cyclic communication. The gist of this request is a current project with a CPU 315-2 PN/DP, where I have two DP segments, each with a large number of nodes (SIMOCODE Pros and Micromaster 440 drives in several motor control centers). There are too many nodes for one DP segment, about 200 nodes total. I am using two CP342-5s, one for each segment. I am currently using the DP port onboard the CPU to link the CPU as a DP slave to a PCS7 system. I cannot attach to the PN port on the CPU with my laptop running SIMOCODE ES and STARTER and have engineering access to the devices for two reasons, according to E&A tech support: one, the CP342-5 only supports Profibus-DP v0, and two, engineering data packets cannot be routed between different network types, i.e., from TCP/IP to Profibus-DP. Why can I not configure the SIMOCODE Pros and Micromaster 440s from the comfort of a central location, but have to configure each device separately via a serial cable? Is Siemens' "Totally Integrated Automation" a joke directed toits customer base? If so, I am NOT laughing, but considering alternatives.

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello, I am sorry to tell you that the only way to get a DPV1 capable interface on the S7-300 is by using the CPU interface. The CP, as you already mentioned, does not support DPV1. The only option I can think of to have multiple DPV1 capable interfaces for this amount of DP Slaves would be by using a S7-400. Maybe the CPU S7-300is not the better choice.
You could do what you want with a CPU S7-400, CP 443-5 and PDM - with these you could setparameters fromSimocodes and Micromasters (limitedscope) from a Central Engineering Station.

But I suggest you to talk with the Hotline / Technicall Support to verify all conditions and restrictions of your project (CPU, number of nodes, what you have to parameterize, etc).

An S7-400 solution would solve the technical issues, but if we had bid it, we would not have gotten the job, the bidding on the project was that close. We are slowly working our way around the shortcomings, but it is frustrating when I have to do a tap-dance in front of the client because "Totally Integrated Automation" doesn't really mean totally integrated automation. Those of you who have worked for Systems Integrators know what I am talking about. By the way, we have encountered an issue with the DriveES function blocks where the blocks do not report drive trips, i.e., the drive can trip on an overload, and the function blocks report that the drive is working fine and there are no trips. This has been verified by Tech Support. Again, thanks for your input!
