Profibus over wireless network for short distances

elisha Posts: 1 Rating: (0)	Hello, I wonder if there is a proven solution for connecting Profibus DP slaves on the S300 system wirelessly? I need to connect a 315-2DP to some remote ET200S units which are mounted on mobile trollys and I cannot use any cables because of the plane configuration. Alternatively, Is there a solution to connect these slaves with Profibus over the power (400V) bus to the trolly? I have a bus of 3X400V + N. Thank you Elisha

You should add a Profinet IO Controller to your S7-300 system, for example a CP343-1EX30 which is a ethernet CP card with integrated 2-port switch.On this card you connect a Scalance W78x and as a Wireless Client you would use a IWLAN/PB Link PN IO which is a Wireless LAN Client and a IE/PB gateway in one. The IE/PB gateway is a Profibus Master an behind it's PB-port you have the possibilty to connect 8 slaves with a cable length of 20 meter. Only this solution is proven for Profibus, other Wireless solution for Profibus are not according to the standard and you would get very high bus cycle times which effects your complete Profibus network and not only the Wireless Part of the network. I once heard somebody talking on a fair about problems because of a Bus Cycle time from a couple seconds because he used special Profibus converters. With the above metnioned solution you won't get update times which are that high and it's not your complete bus cycle time which is affected by the Wireless part. Good luck.

Here are 2 solutions we have used in past projects; both will work, but there is cost and speed impacts that are specific to each:

SIMATIC DP, POWER RAIL BOOSTER SIGNAL AMPLIFIER FOR TRANSMITTING THE PROTOCOL OF PROFIBUS-DP USING COLLECTOR WIRES, MAX 500 KBIT/S
