Profibus to S7-1200 with gateway

While profibus on S7-1200 doesn't exist I like to use a Profibus/Ethernet Gateway (may I put the type on this forum?). The Gateway is master for the Profibus side, OK. The Ethernet side can be connected to the S7-1200 with Profinet. Is this principe possible ? Thanks.

Hello Bepke I'm afraid to say that it isn't (not yet anyhow). A 1200 can currentlyNOT be used as a Profinet I/O controller (which is what you would need)NOR can it act as a Profinet I/O device adn what is supported by the onboard "Profinet" port of a S7 1200 can be found HERE. These features are planned for the (hopefully not to distant) future though (as well as add on Profibus DP Master and Slave Communication modules), so one day you shall be able to do what you are planning to do. You just send your profibus data to S7-1200 via this CP card and it will work like a charm. And it don't matter how many profibus devices you have. Most important is to collect all profibus data into one DB and send it to S7-1200 cia CP343. Thats all.

So You mean the put a S7-300 CPU (with a CP CP343-1 PN) into the profibus network and then the CP343 to the S7-1200 ? Then i can take ev. also a CPU 2DP/PN. That become also a little bit expensive for a small communications with a low-cost S7-1200. Do you know eventually when Siemens will start with profibus in the S7-1200: ...2010..2011? CU

How to accomplish this task you can find here http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/40556214 I really don't know when S7-1200 will have profibus module available.

The 2 modules are: CM1242-5- Profibus DPV1 module for using the S7-1200 as a Profibus slave CM1243-5- Profibus DPV1 module for using the S7-1200 as a Profibus Master. Engineering Software required: Step 7 V11. More details on private.
