Hi, I have a forthcoming project that requires the receipt of a short data string from a Sick Barcode Reading Array (Sick MCS800), there are three such arrays in this project.

I was hoping to use Ethernet TCP/IP to do this, but as a backup each array has a RS232 aux port.

My PLC CPU is a S7-1200 1214C.

I haven't used the ethernet comms functions before, any help as to how I sent up my message blocks to receive the codes into a string register...?

I've searched for .GSD files for the arrays being used but can't find any that relate to anything other than Profibus.

Any comments / help would be gratefully received...Cheers!

i had a configuration with a S7-300 and a camera over Ethernet. In my case it was working with open comunication with T_CON and T_RCV. But this is long time ago and I don´t have the program yet, so maybe I´m wrong. But I think it is a try worth.

In S7-1200 is two ways as make communication.

First: Used TCON, TSEND, TRCV, (TDISCON – not necessary). Its similar as S7-300. (attachments)

Second: Used TSEND_C, TRCV_C  (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2YU0F1yqrU)

For testing communication between PLC and devices I use software Hercules (http://www.hw-group.com/products/hercules/index_en.html).  It is simple free utility for making/testing communication.
