Profinet Network cabling

ujwalsadare Posts: 39 Rating: (0)	Hello Experts, I have a project (winding machine) which consists of following things, S7 - 300 (315 2PN/DP), Wincc Flex RT, IM-153 4PN (65SE7 153 4AA01 OXBO) 6 nos, and some profibus slaves. Till these days I used to use normal ethernet CAT 6 cable for profinet connection. Perhaps, as per the site situation, normal CAT 6 cable can pick up lot of noise, so I wonder if I can go with siemens profinet cables which can absorb noise like profibus cables. I would like to know few things, 1) whether profinet cable with shielding like profibus is available? 2) If YES, please be kind to suggest me the model number, connection and connector (RJ45) details 3) Should I have to select any specific ethernet switch or normal ethernet switches like 8-port are sufficient Thanks in advance Ujwal Sadare

Rated X Posts: 1547 Rating: (129)	Hello, the regular Siemens Ethernet IE FC standard cable is suitable for this. For example order number: 6XV1870-2E It is shielded with Foil and flexible shield, but the important this is the RJ45 plug from Siemens. It a metal plug where the shield is strong connected. For example order number: 6GK1901-1BB10-2AA0 With the Siemens SCALANCE X Switch you can be sure, that the shield is goodconnected to ground.Normal office switch with normal power plug is not grounded. But if you have really EMC problem you should think about optical cable and SCALANCE Switch with fiber port.

As you mentioned, will this work on normal office ethernet switches? fritz Diamond Expert Joined: 10/7/2005 Last visit: 3/24/2025 Posts: 3042 Rating: (1061)	Hello ujwalsadare "normal" switches will work, but they may adversely affect the performance of your Profinet I/O network unless they support"Quality of Service (QoS)" as well as "cut through" features (the latter is more important if you daisy chain switches). I suggest you go to http://www.profibus.com/nc/downloads/and grab the various free of charge available Profinet Design, commissioning, cabling and assemblyguidelines which are well worth a read for anyone involved with this matter (a network load calculator is also available for free). I hope this helps

Thus, normal swithc may work initially if there is no other device is in between your controller and IO interface module. But once it is inroduced you will start facing problems. Its always better to use Special Profinet Switches or use SIemens Scalance Switch or even Cisco switches can to be configured for Profinet. I hope its useful for you and all. With Regards, Kishor.
