Dear all even though the available technical spec of the new S7-1215 CPU is not full clear on this, here's my take on things: The S7-1215 CPU has an inbuilt three port Ethernet switch which exposes two RJ45 ports to the outside world. One would hope that this inbuilt switch also supports the so called cut trough mechanism which greatly reduces the timeneeded for a frame to pass through the switch and makes the daisy chaining of serveral S7-1215 CPU's asuitable proposition. Assumingit does support cut through mechanism and you would "daisychain" all CPU's in a quasi line topology (aka linear Topology), you want to ensure that each CPU remains powers on you will otherwise loose the inbuilt switch and break the communciation "line". If you do not want to accpet this risk and/or be able to power off CPU's, you would go for the external switch solution as already mentioned by huggy_d1. Last but not least, the inbuilt switch of the new S7-1215 CPU may perhaps alreadysupport MRP (Media Redundancy Protocol) in which case you can built a ring Topology. Would be great is someone out there either knows or has atechnical spec of these new 1215 CPU's that clarifys if the inbuilt switch supports cut trough and MRP. I hope this helps |
