PROFINET with WinCC (CP1613) & CPU 315-2 PN/DP (without CP 343-1)

What is the main purpose of the intergral PROFINET interface on CPU 315-2 PN/DP? Should I use it to connect to WinCC (CP1613)? Another question is : can I use the PROFIBUS DP interfaceon CPU 315-2 DP (without CP 342-5)to connect to WinCC (CP5613)? Please advise, thanks in advance.

chapmant Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	Theintergral PROFINET interface on CPU 315-2 PN/DP is designed to control distributed I/O modules via Ethernet in real time (deterministic). However, the interface also operates as a standard Ethernet port on the PLC so can also be used to connect to a WinCC station. The PROFIBUS DP interfaceon CPU 315-2 DP can also be usedto connect to WinCC using a suitable PROFIBUS card in the PC using the standard S& communication channel.

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello, these two questions are not really quick answered, but I try. The PROFINET interface is used to connect PROFINET IO peripheral to the PLC, just like you use PROFIBUS DP. If needed you could also use PROFINET CBA to interconnect PLC’s. Just to be mentioned. Just to set a point, the PROFINET Interface is a Ethernet Interface, so you can also use services like S7-Connections to connect to WinCC with CP 1613. The CP 1613 is not capable of doing PROFINET IO. The PROFINET Interface is capable of: S7-Connections, TCP Connections, ISO on TCP Connections and UDP Connections. (In the latest Versions) The PROFIBUS DP Interface of the CPU has a comparable function as the PROFINET Interface. The main difference here is that the PROFIBUS DP Interface can only be active with DP. If you want to do anything else you can only use the CPU as Server, the CPU is not active in such a case. J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello, well the disadvantages are the following: You can only use a very limited # of Connections 8 with the CPU, up to 16 for each CP. You have to configure Connections by hand or the optional Open Communication Wizard. Connections for the CP are configured by STEP7 in NetPro. The CP, at least the standard and advanced, is capable of Multiplexing S7 Connection, which allows you to have more S7 Connections than you have resources at the CPU. I hope I cached all of it.
