Programming CPU S7-313 and power supply

n_bruin Posts: 8 Rating: (0)	Good day, For a switchboard control system onboard a ship I've purchased a second hand CPU S7-313 (discontinued production a while ago I believe) with extension modules. Type of CPU is 321-7RD00-0AB0. For this I have two questions: - Firstly, what is the best way to program the CPU? I want to connect the unit to a PC to download the program from there, but I am a bit confused what cable to use. The best way would be to have an USB cable, as COM ports are hard to find nowadays... Are all connection cables from Siemens useable on all PLC's? - Secondly, the cabinet will be powered from a battery source 24VDC, as there is not always 230V available. As there is a possibility that the charge voltages will rise above 28V, it is probably best to have a stable 24VDC-24VDC power supply? Any suggestions? Hope that anyone can be of assistance!

I mean that 6ES7321-7RD00-0AB0. is not the CPU type, but it is the DI module part number. n_bruin For this I have two questions: - Firstly, what is the best way to program the CPU? Are all connection cables from Siemens useable on all PLC's? You have to use PC adapter with part number6ES7972-0CB20-0XA0. With this PC adapter you can program Siemens PLC S7-200, S7-300 and S7-400. And for sure you need STEP 7 software. Please note that the rated voltage of S7-300 CPUs is 24VDC. Permissable limits are: Lower limit: 20.4VDC & Upper limit is 28.8VDC. So please check that your DC power source is within these limits. n_bruin Posts: 8 Rating: (0)	Hello again, Preparing the schematics, I am wondering on which input(s) I can use a NPN pickup for rpm measurement of an engine. I've read something in the manuals but I cannot find anything conclusive so far. I'm using 321-1BL00-0AA0 (DIx32). Many thanks! Niels

Another problem might rise and that's the frequency of the signal, how mutch pulses per second you expect? Regards, Marcjan

Secondly, I can take the frequency from the gear rim of the flywheel (not yet sure how many pulses that will be), but the minimum frequency will be, at max. rpm of the engine 2500, about 42 Hz using only one pickup bolt on the flywheel. Is there a specific input point for this type of signal input? Or can any DI channel be used for this? Brgds, Niels

Marcjan Platinum Expert Joined: 4/22/2010 Last visit: 5/3/2024 Posts: 5697 Rating: (715)	Hello, You can find the specifications of your module here; SIMATIC S7-300 S7-300 Automation System Module Data There you can see your module has this specification for input delay: Input delay "0" to "1" transition 1.2 ms to 4.8 ms "1" to "0" transition 1.2 ms to 4.8 ms So 45Hz must not be a problem.
