PSI Bluetooth Converter for S7-400

ALSum Posts: 8 Rating: (0)	Hi, I wanted to make a project where I want to connect a PDA with a Siemens PLC S7-400 I was thinking about making a bluetooth connection because this is much safe i think in small area's. When I was looking I found a PSi Bluetooth Converter (PSI-WL-RS232-RS485/BT) to make the connection. Now my question is if I need any special software or program to connect the Plc with this system or if it's possible to make the connection with a siemens PLC.and in what type of data I must send this to make applications on the PLC. J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello, well... I do not know what type of PDA you have but... just to think about. What you need to use for programming a PLC is Windows XP Prof. or VISTA with STEP 7 V 5.4, if you get this on your PDA you may have to add some 10 GB of Memory to it. MPI on BT is surely possible, I found the company called "Schildknecht" that offers something like that but I have to say that they connect a PC with a Schildknecht Device with another Schildknecht Device that is connected to a PLC. So see yourself. I think an application on BT with a PDA to program will be a tough business. The only thing I could think of would be a WLAN connected to a S7 Advanced CP and a WLAN Connection to your PDA, to monitor some values... this is certainly no big deal. Best regards J_Bell

ALSum Posts: 8 Rating: (0)	hmm whatI thought was giving commands to theplc witha pda.( something like move to pos x) butI think the only way thatIcan send the data is with "strings" but it's gonna cause problems in the plc if it are a lot of "strings". So maybe it is better to connect the pda with a pc through (bluetooth)and the pcon profibus to the plc. isn'tthiseasier to transform data frompda to plc? As for the interface programI was thinking about usingOPC data acces 2.0. because it has to be inreal time. What do you think? thanks, Alsum

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello, well... I am not sure... are you aware of the Problem the PLC has to interpret the Information you sent to it via a STRING? Even so you may transfer it via PROFIBUS form a PC, the PLC still has to interpret, isn’t it much easier if you just want to tell coordinates and you want to start the job to set the Values in variables alone and set a Start bit? I think it is. In such a case you could use S7-Communication. Just as an idea. Best regards J_Bell

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Dear ALSum, the thing is that anyway what you want to do, the way you mentioned, you will have to do programming on either the PC or the PLC. On CP side you will have to offer an Interface to the PDA that way that the PDA will be able to access and write Data from / to the PLC, independent which way you want to transfer this to the PLC. On the other hand you would have to program the PLC that way that it receives... somehow... your strings and interprets them... this surely harder than on PC side. So I wonder... wouldn’t it not be much easier to use a Ethernet CP with a Web Server to offer a simple Web page to access... over Ethernet, maybe WLAN, and accessing it over the integrated Browser of your PDA? There you can use JAVAApplets or even JAVA Beans to show or edit values... really easy. I would prefer the last solution... but this is your choice. Best regards J_Bell

Well surely, it will take a bit longer than if you would have it directly in I/O but it is done in a view 100ms. This is especially the case if you are not really far away from it. The only important thing here is that the PDA has to be able to runJAVA. Applets or Beans on it. Best regards J_Bell
