Pulse / direction with Simatic Double Motor Module?

Hello everybody!

I am looking for a solution (if it is possible) to control a Double Motor Module with step dir comands.

Is it possible? Can be done directly or with a conversion or an other solution?

You can parametrize a SMC30 as PTI Interface.

But if you need a counter only, you can work with fast digital input too. See parameter p500ff.

I need to control the driver with Mach3 controller software. I know it sounds strange using Siemens drive in that context but Mach3 is a very friendly controller software. If you can be more specific i would be grateful. Many thanks for answering.

there are versions of MACH3 controllers which supports PROFINET IRT too. Or you can use ETHERCAT: https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/ww/en/view/109757300

One more thing. I do not have the CU320

WIthout a CU320(-2) it is not possible to operate a SINAMICS Motor Module at all! At least I have never heard of any possibility. You will always need the Control Unit - and also do not forget that a Motor Module is a DC/AC converter so you will also need a Line Module (Basic-, Smart- or Active Line Module) to supply the Motor Module with DC voltage.

Of course i know that the drive need a DC voltage (600v).

The idea is to control directly the drive without the CU. With all Simatic modules it will become a Siemens machine and it's stupid not to use the Simens system.

Mach 3 and Mach 4 doesn't give a communications with drives other than step/dir. At least i didn't find any info on the subject. The PC can comunicate with some interfaces through ethernet(rather than paralell) but no way further to drives.

Many drives use an input step/dir like Delta, Kollmorgen, Logosol and maybe others. I am looking for a solution to use the double module by Siemens.

I think what you maybe did not understand so far:

Of course it is possible to run a SINAMICS S120 with another PLC than a Siemens PLC. BUT: The SINAMICS S120 drive system itself consists always of those components at least: 

- Control Unit (CU320-2 / CU310-2)

- Infeed Module (ALM, SLM, BLM)

- Motor Module (Single oder Double Motor Module)

So you will need this CU3x0-2! It is not possible to run the motor module without the CU (CU is not CPU/PLC!!!!). The CU calculates the closed loop control - this is not done by the motor module. The motor module let's say has no computing intelligence.

... I suppose the cheapest would be a SINAMICS V90, S110,  which supports PTI directly.

Sorry I´ve mixed MACH3 with the BACHMANN M1 PLC.
