Ikkezelf Posts: 1084 Rating: (72)	Hi, I have an OPC Connection to an OPC Server (located on the same machine as the wincc Server). I get some strange results for the quality of the tags within this connection. Situation 1: Connection between Clientand wincc Server oke; Connection between wincc server and opc server oke; connection between opc server and database (where the opc server connects to) oke. Quality code retrieved by a c-script: 0 Quality Code retrieved by VBS Script: 192 Quality code when hovering over tag in wincc server: C0 Situation 2: Connection between Clientand wincc Server oke; Connection between wincc server and opc server fault; connection between opc server and database (where the opc server connects to) fault. (I just shutdown the OPC Server) Quality code retrieved by a c-script: <> 0 (512 or 513 most of the time) Quality Code retrieved by VBS Script: 8 Quality code when hovering over tag in wincc server: 8 (with text "no connection to PLC") Situation 3: Connection between Clientand wincc Server oke; Connection between wincc server and opc server oke; connection between opc server and database (where the opc server connects to) fault. Quality code retrieved by a c-script: 0 Quality Code retrieved by VBS Script: 20 Quality code when hovering over tag in wincc server: 14 My problem resides in situation 3. When ever situation 3 occurs you can see that VBS returns the same quality as when the complete opc server is shutdown. C- script returns the value 0 (oke), but that is not the case ![:mad:] And when hovering over the tag in the wincc server it says 14, which in my opinion is different then c0, but I can't distinguish it in c-script. Case is that I want to notice the difference in c-script in two ways: Just by c-script code and also when connecting a tag to an object in a graphic and retrieving the "evaluate status of tag". Can anyone help me out here? Thanks in advance.

I too have found that if the OPC server loses connection to it's device, WinCC doesn't detect this. I guess it's because it is only looking at the OPC server and that this behaviour is as designed (please feel free to correct me if I am wrong). Are there any system tags provided by the OPC Server that indicate the connection status to the device, i.e. in your case the database? Maybe you could check these in your script to detect communication failure. Hope this helps a little Salma

Ikkezelf Posts: 1084 Rating: (72)	Salma, Thanks for your reply. And yes I have one status tag within the OPC Server that I can read. But I would like to use th quality code of a tag in wincc. If I look at the quality codes retrieved by c-script and vbs, I can see a BIG difference in behaviour. When hovering over the tag in wincc explorer it also shows a different quality (which could be used by siemens/wincc to correctly display connection quality). I just don't get why siemens/wincc is not using this changed quality...

There is a new function available (that was not there in SP2 HF9) called GetTagDWordStateQC. This c-script function returns tagvalue, tagstatus and tagQUALITY.[:D] And therfore suits my need. With Regards.
