Quick way to save values from a datablock in TIA

So when a programmer go's onsite he always have to save the values inside all datablocks before changing something at the software. In Step 7 v5.5, this is easy, you check to see if there are timestamp conflicts? None, then just upload the DB's to the laptop and done. Now in TIA I figured out I have to open the DB, monitor it, take a snapshot, stop monitoring and copy paste the values from the snapshot to the start values. I can tell you with around 100 DB's, this isn't pleasant. So does someone know a quicker way to save the values of online datablocks (global and instance) to a laptop in TIA Portal. So that those values never get lost, even not with a "rebuild all"? Thx

FreakOnALeash Posts: 267 Rating: (22)	Hello, if you need it only in the program, perhaps you can save all actual values in a buffer and load them backon request or with the first cycle (OB100). This overwrites the start values. If you wanna transfer them outside you can do this via data log.

It's only for when a programmer go's onsite, he can save first the data to his offline program so no settings get lost.

[2] Make a backup of the current parameters. When you identify the changes made by the user, sometimes you sort out the problem already. I do not have the answer. My instinct says to do.. 1] upload the datablocks -- does values come with? 2] copy settings to an Excel sheet. 3] let the Excel sheet make comparisons for you. -- the problem is that these steps takes much time. The customer is never patient enough to let you do this routine things first. Someone else with ideas? w

What I'm asking is standard functionality for Step 7 v5.5 which I also want to do in TIA Portal. In v5.5 you just do a compare offline/online off the program, when there are no time stamp conflicts you are safe. Time stamp conflicts have nothing to do with actual value differences inside the datablock. It's just to check if the date is the same of the datablock, so when you do an upload, you don't loose the symbols and comments. So when no timestamp problems, in v5.5, you go online and upload all datablocks to the offline program and you have all the latest settings. That's it. Normally one minute of work. It's that functionality that I want in TIA portal, or to say different, that I don't know how to do in TIA portal. I figured out that you can take snapshots, but for that you have to go online in each different datablock, take a snapshot, go back offline, copy paste the snapshot values to the start values, compile and download again. Instead of minute work, it can become a few hours work. Creating stuff like Excel is all nice if you have clients that want to pay for the development if it. Most off the time, they don't, so I can't spend extra time to it. We still want to make a profit.

ThaKibosh is right - TIA does not give you a time stamp indication that the values of the DB has changed. Even a comparison does not tell you if the value is different than the start value. I got a PLC somewhere and tested it. There is a technique I use on the S7-200 that will work.. but it is not as easy as Step 7 V5.x. -- [1] Create a watch table that contains all the values you need to monitor. (Do not need to be online to do this.) [2] Each time you visit the client, copy-and-paste the online values to a Excel sheet. (Save this file to a unique file.) [3] Take the monitor value column of this trip and let Excel compare it with the previous trip. This can be done easily by having column A - column B = column C. If the values are 0 then you are okay. For bonus points you can have "conditional formatting" command colour all the values that is not 0. -- Advantage of this method is that you always have a copy of what the parameters were on your last trip -- it does not matter if the values were default values or not. There are no doubt what the values were and if you missed something on a previous trip. Disadvantage: (a) you have to have a reference copy to work from (b) it is more work to get it done - you have to make preperations before your visit. (c) you should be able to work with spreadsheets in MS Office / Libre Office / OpenOffice. I always create watch tables and this method I use for S7-200 PLCs. That is what I have to offer.
