Read and Write data block variables thru HMI

Pabs Posts: 15 Rating: (0)	Hi All, I would like to know if it is possible to READ and WRITE Data Block variables from the HMI. In other words, I need to display on my HMI for instance temperature or pressure values stored in a DB, and also would like to enter a value for a specific varialble in the DB that in turn will be used in a PID loop. Ideally I would like to create Input and Output fields on the screen to display and pass data from/to the PLC Please advise on how to do this... My system: S7-1200 CPU, TIA Portal 10.5, KTP1000 Basic Panel PN Thanks a lot for your help!

My system: S7-1200 CPU, TIA Portal 10.5, KTP1000 Basic Panel PN Thanks a lot for your help! The portal version you are using is a couple of years out of date, and quite buggy. I would suggest upgrading to the latest available portal software and firmware for the PLC. If your PLC is very new, it might have firmware 3.0 whichwill not work in TIA Portal 10.5. After that, add the plc & hmi to your project. Follow the wizard prompts to generate your hmi project, then add io field(s), select your plc db tag(s) from the field properties, and it will work fine. Hope this is helpful.

Now for the TIA Software, what is the latest version and where can be downloaded? Would the upgrade be a paid licence or a free one?? Thanks again for your support! Best, Pabs

Various options exist, with the floating license on a usb thumb drive looking like the best option for many situations. Check with your local distributor to see what makes the most sense for your situation. Once you get the latest portal, you will sadly have to also download hardware support packs (HSP) to support firmware 3.0 devices (the newest). The latest as of today is TIA Portal V11 SP2 Update 4 with HSP 26 (if I recall correctly).
