Read fixed values from HMI

JdeJ Posts: 9 Rating: (0)	I'm looking for a solution to read out a value from the HMI without user intervention. It's for making the PLC aware of the firmware version of the HMI. The firmware version should be hardcoded in the HMI, and should be able to be read once on startup (or cyclic every x minutes). Currently I use the SetTag function (as a button event) to copy an internal tag to an external tag. The internal tag has a start value of the firmware version. On button press it is copied to the external tag, and thus transferred to (a data block in) the PLC. This works fine, except that an operator needs to press the button to copy the value. Can this be done with with just internal/external tags, or are area pointers the right direction? It would be fine if the firmware version is transferred to the PLC on connection establishment.

JdeJ Posts: 9 Rating: (0)	To automate the version administration. PLC version and HMI version have different version numbers. Using telemetry, we dont have to ask the customer which versions they are using. Of course this is possible by using an spreadsheet and write everything down for every customer, but we'll want to use this way to prevent documentation errors (caused by 'the human factor')... By the way, we use telemetry also for other parameters of course.

Instead of putting your event on a button, make a global script and configure a trigger to run the script (standard cycle, hourly, daily, monthly,... or based on a tag ...) Good luck.
