read out PLC/NC data from OPC

Jonelle Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Hi, J_Bell, I'm using 840Di sl (brought in 2012), and trying to read out PLC/NC data from OPC. The version is SINUMERIK OPC-Server DataAccess - V305.303.101.1(c) Siemens AG. Now I can read out data, but, as you guys talked about, I need to change DCOM. So I am seeking the OPC UA solution. As you said "As far as I know is the OPC Server delivered with the latest Edition 2008 capable of providing OPC UA.", so my questions are 1) Does my 840Di sl OPC DAincludeOPC UA function? 2) Actually the versions of OPC DA I checked from OPCfoundation.org are like Data Access 2.05, or Data Access3.0. What is "V305.303.101.1" for my OPC? The material about SINUMERIK OPC is rare... Thanks. Best Regards, Jonelle

APC Tech Team Posts: 391 Rating: (50)	Hello, the version you are talking about is the internal SW version, let's say software release version xxxx. The versions you see in the OPC Foundation site are the "OPC Standard Specification" versions. That explains the difference. J_Bell was talking about the Simatic OPC Server, which is delivered with the Simatic NET CD. It supports OPC UA from the 2008 version. With the Simatic OPC Server you have access to Simatic PLCs that support OPC communication. For Sinumerik there is however a different OPC Server, that is called Sinumerik OPC and is installed together with HMI-Advanced on the PCU50 (or 840Di). The Sinumerik OPC Server does not support OPC UA. The Sinumerik OPC Server lets you access NC and PLC variables. The documentation about Sinumerik OPC Server and how to configure it for DCOM is contained in the so-called HMI-Advanced Programming Package and is not freely available. Best regards

As it is just SW release version, then what is the corresponding "OPC Standard Specification" version? Or there is no "OPC Standard Specification" version for Sinumerik OPC, as I know HMI-Advanced Sinumerik OPC is not certified by OPC Foundation. The reason I asked whether Sinumerik OPC Server support OPC UA is that Ialso collectedsome relevant information from a OPC UA Roadmap provided by Thomas Hahn, chief software expert, Siemens AG, attachedbelow. It alsoannounced Sinumerik level OPC in page 5. May I know what does it mean? It means SIMATIC NET OPC Server can be installed on Sinumerik controller, such as 840Di sl, or...? APC Tech Team Posts: 391 Rating: (50)	Hello, the Sinumerik OPC Data Access Server provided with HMI-Advanced adheres (with some exceptions) to the OPC DA 2.00 Specification. Such exceptions are, for example, that Browsing is not implemented and Server UpdateRatevalueis fixed. You can use the Simatic OPC Server to access the Sinumerik PLC. Access to NC variables is not released. As far as I know, a Sinumerik OPC Server UA-compliant is planned but at the moment there is no release date available. If you plan to develop aMonitoring / Supervision system that runs on an external PC you could also check the MCIS RPC product. However it does not provide any OPC interface.
