Read variables from Plc to WinCC via opc server

CromptonS Bronze Member Joined: 10/31/2006 Last visit: 9/21/2022 Posts: 134 Rating: (34)	Your question is very general, however if you installed opc with your WinCC installation ( if im not mistaken it is installed by default ) whatever tags you add in your WinCC Explorerunder Tag Managementwill be available in your opc server. The WinCC opc server name is OPCServer.WinCC. Any OPC client should be able to connect to this and read the configured tags in WinCC. If you are wanting your your process connection from WinCC to the PLC, to be OPC then WinCC does have an opc driver under the tag management which you can set up. What PLC do you want to connect to?

bara_hence Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	The plc isa s7-200 224xp.. The plc sends data (via gprs) to the opc server and this i want to create tags for in wincc.. This is how long i´ve come by now: 1. In Wincc explorer go to: tag management-opc-opc groups-"my connection" 2. Make new tag, press select next to the adress field 3 Here is the problem how do i fill out the item name, access path field if i want to read for example a floating point number wich starts from vb100 in the plc?

(need to setup something with dcomcnfg or .. ) 3. wincc now plz answer my 1st question 2. if you installed simatic net you need to have opcscout, plz open opc scout and try to connect your local opc servers if you can then its ok, if you can not then you need to mess with "dcomcnfg" (search forum for more) or with your opc server its self.. if you do not have opc scout plz get matricon opc browser which is free and it mentioned also in this forum many times so plz search. and try your opc server with this tool. 3. if its ok and you opc is working plz open an opc group and rigth click on it then select system parameters.. there with amazingly nice tool you can see your server like scout and add items from it to your scada. It also adds your connection if you misconfigurated. p.s : to add items, you can try scout or matricon progie.

If so the you can add the OPC.chn driver to the Tag Management in WinCC Explorer. Once done, you then add a driver connection and in the properties of that driver connection you refer it to the OPC Server that contains the data from the PLC. When you add a tag under that connection,you can then add theopc tagfrom the server. The parameters will come up when you select the address. You will have to know the name of the OPC tag tho. The actual adressing of the tag ( vb100 ) should be configured in the other OPC server already and should only need to be referenced by its tag name on the WinCC side.
