Mehrnoosh Posts: 102 Rating: (9)	Dear friends I have a tag (text 8 bit character set) which I write some ascii codes (codes from 128 to 255) in it. I read this tag in a VBS script. I run the same project in another machine but the second machine can not read the tag correctly. It replaces some codes with (0x3f) which is the ascii code of "?". If read same bytes as some byte tags I get the correct data but when I read them as a text tag I face the problem. I should mention that it is correct in the first machine. These data are some characters in S7 side, but there is 2 characters at the beginning which contains maximum and actual length of the string. For example: DB100.DBB 20 6 DB100.DBB 21 6 DB100.DBB 22 A1 DB100.DBB 23 A2 DB100.DBB 24 A3 DB100.DBB 25 A4 DB100.DBB 26 A5 DB100.DBB 27 A6 They are all defined CHARACTER in S7 side. I read it in WinCC side as a text 8 bit character set with length 8 and address: DB100.DBB20 and I get : A1,A2,3f,A4,3f,A6! Both machines have WinCC 6 SP3 hotfix 2, but the first one has Windows2000 and second has Windows 2003. Please help me to figure out the problem.

Am I right in thinking you have run the same WinCC project on both machines ? This is the simplest test. Secondly, you mention reading the values in viaa script. Can you post this script here ? Also, what is the actual tag value. Just display it in an IOField. Does it show correctly ?

Salma Gold Member Joined: 9/27/2005 Last visit: 11/27/2007 Posts: 1398 Rating: (151)	As the IOField does not display correctly this implies the problem is somewhere in the PLC or WinCC and NOT your script. - Are both computers using the same communication method to the PLC ? So the same communications card and protocol ? - What PLC are you using ? - Ifit's an S7 then can you export and post your data block definition here ? - Have you tried using another client, such as OPC Scout ?

The correct one has CP1613 as its network card (to connect to PLCs), but second has a standard network card and using Simatic net to configure this card. PLCs are S7-300. All other tags are read correctly except those I mentioned before. And they have CHAR type in PLC side. Thanks Mehrnoosh

Again ... - Can you export and post your data block definition here ? Or copy it into an empty Step7 project and post it here - Have you tried using another client, such as OPC Scout ?

If you have not done this then I would suggest ignoring this suggestion. Back to your problem, I set up a quick test here. My IOField, with the Data Format Property set to String, shows ¡¢£¤¥¦ Do you see the same string ? If I run your script against this value I just get ??????. This looks like a font issue on my machine. Maybe this is the difference between your two machines ? I am afraid I don't really understand what you are doing and so cannot help much. Can anyone else understand this problem and know what is going wrong ?
