See below for system setup:

I am reading a short bar code string (see attachment) and I need to control an output according to the string I read, the problem is that I only have around 50-100ms after reading the string until I need to control the output, preferably in less time then that and I will receive up to 250 strings per minute.

Testing has shown that I can read the string and it becomes available in the PLC 90 to 1100 ms later. I think this is because the CM ptp module reads the string quickly enough but sends the buffer periodically to the PLC. My questions are:

1. Can I configure this so the buffer is sent immediately after each string?

2. Can I add some equipment to to my setup or apply another method in order to achieve this?

Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated, thank you

Hardware setup:

CPU 1510SP-1 PN, 6ES7 510-1DJ01-0AB0, 200SP, now I am using V13 SP2 but will change to V15.1 in the final product

CM PtP, 6ES7 137-6AA00-0BA0

CM ptp RS232 setup:

Data transmission rate: 115.200 bits/s

Parity: None

Data bits: 8

Stop bits: 1

Data flow control: None

Receive buffer:

Buffered received frames: 1

Prevent overwriting: unchecked

Clear receive buffer on startup: unchecked

The trick to this is the "Configuration of the message received" for the PtP module.

The defaults are often much slower because they are generic rather than specific to your application.

For example, you know the first character for any acceptable frame, and you know the last 2 characters as well.  What you want is the stuff in between, right?

You will want to configure the frame start and end detection, receive buffer, and then make sure you are looking at the configured I/O addresses for the module's.  This may help guide your thinking during the configuration:

This is working perfectly now when I have defined the start and end conditions correctly and corrected the time measurement code.

In a batch of 300 measurements:

Max time: 73ms

Min time: 43ms

Avg time: 54ms
