Reading DB block values by Profibus DP ?

Greg_S Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	Hello Everyone :) I do have some problem. In my current project i do have 2 PLC's, both are S7-300 type. One (master) have to read data from DB block of second (slave), and i dont know how to do it. Its even possible ? Till now i've used only simple way of data exchange by Profibus - by I/O adresses, so im not sure if i can have direct access to read data from DB located in slave memory. Thing is a bit complicated because i do have access only to Master program, slave is delivered "ready to use" so i cannot make any change in it. All what i got is DB printout with data what i do need to read. If its possible, can someone give me some tip or link with turtorial how it can be done ? Thanks in advance Greg

Rated X Posts: 1547 Rating: (129)	Hello Greg_S, if you don't have access to second PLC you MUST use S7 protocol, because all other possibilities requires access to configuration and needs configuration change. Here you will find a sample how to do this: Sample Program: S7 Communication with blocks FB14 ("GET") und FB15 ("PUT") of the CPU 317-2PN/DP The sample is using Ethernet, but it is the same on PROFIBUS.

As a footnote, here is a table of possible Profibusmaster-slave combinations, with appropriate program examples:http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/7764609 For youe Ethernet exchanges, you could select any CP 343-1 (one per CPU rack) but the CP 343-1 Lean is the cheapest (as far as price) option and will do the job well. There is some limitation while working on integral Dp ports on S7 CPUs.Master-Slave is possible in these set ups. But for services such as FDL and S7 connection over PROFIBUS, communication processors (CPs) such as CP 342-5 are needed.As far as I know, S7 connection which is defined in active and passive PLCs should be downloaded to both(you need project for both CPUs due to SDB change in both projects ).
