Reading tag in PLC from Excel file

Saruca Posts: 122 Rating: (1)	Hi everyone, I'm a begginer in PLC proggraming and I've never had to get values of tags outside the SIMATIC network. In my application I have a barcode scanner that gives me the numeric value of the barcode detected. With that numeric value I have to search inside a database in Excel to get the properties associated to that barcode. I've been learning a lot about this in the forum but there's so much information that in the end I'm not sure I got it right. What I think I have to do is to configure an OPC server like this How do you create an OPC client with Microsoft Excel? Am I wrong? Is there an easier way of doing what I want? Thanks in advance

Saruca Posts: 122 Rating: (1)	Thanks for your answer Rated X. Do you think that if I use OPC communication the process of communicating the PLC and the database will be faster than doing it through WinCC? I think so but I'm a beginner. I've never worked with SIMATIC NET before.
