Kareto, Krish If you strictly go by the manual then you cannot use X005 in a ring. Quote from themanual(see the note in section 2.1 page 39 of 64) It is not possible to use the SCALANCE X005 switch in a redundant ring since it does not support the redundancy function. However I have my doubts. What does a redundancy ring client do anyways? But then again, please test the solution with X005 before committing. Moreover, why X204 IRT PRO ? Why do you need IRT? IRT is for high speed application, but I doubt if it has a better ring error detection and port switching. Why do you need PRO? X005, are all IP30, so why just this as PRO (IP65) If you are just looking for a RM, take X208. (And yeh, in this case my suggestion is to take all X208)
Krish, what to do you mean by "more" redundancy manager. I thing in one ring only one RM is possible. I would like to know more of what you propose. And Kareto, looking at your network picture maybe you want to use the images fromSiemens IA DT Image databaseto display various components.

It is required to define the "ring" ports on all switches, which in my view is kind of automatic and default functionality. However, I will believe the manual when it says X005 cannot be used in a ring.
Yes I am pretty sure. I don't know which manuals are you referring to, but IRT is not a necessary requirement to be a redundancy manager. Please seeIKPI cataloguechapter on Profinet and Industrial ethernet (I had attaches the screenshot from that catalogue in earlier post) Scalance X200 manualhere. See table 3.1 section 3.1 page 25 for product features.

I just want to mention that's it's absolutely not recommended to use switch which don't support Ring Redundancy in a ring. Such solutions are not tested by Siemens and it's impossible to ensure problem free working of the Ring Redundancy. Which couldmeanlonger fallout of the network when something occurs. There for use Ring switches only!!!! And I can make sure that evey managed switch which can be ordererdby Siemens today is capable of being Ring Manager functionality. Which Industrial Ethernet switches can be operated as redundancy managers and which as standby managers in a ring? To get more information about the both ring technolgies I would ask you to have a look at this very clear FAQ: Demonstration System "Redundancy Mechanisms" in industrial networks with SCALANCE X Ring Redundancy using the Media Redundancy Protocol (MRP) - Configuration 13 Furthermore I had a brief look at the picture of the topic starter. I see you also have some CP443-1's. I'm not sure or it's an existing application but I could imagine that there could be a solution with the CP's MRP Client. We should only think about connecting the PC's to the network but I guess you could save onsome switches here... |
