Redundant PS for 1500

Dear Experts,

Can I have 2 PS (System Power Supplies) in 1500 configuration working as redundant: If one fails, the second  to take on?

May be there is a way?

The following document is a very good introduction on the S7-1500 system, and has a section that discusses power supplies. Start by reading that section (chapter 12) to understand the different types of PS and PM used in the S7-1500,

The attachment below (taken from that manual) states that you can use SITOP power supplies to form a redundant pair of external power supplies for the S7-1500.

To do so, choose your 24VDC power supplies in the SITOP catalog (there is a link to SITOP units that can be used with the S7-1500 at the bottom of the first document), and add a redundancy module between the two:

for any load DC24V you can have redundant power supply, even when the load have only one power input, you can do it combining 2 PS + 1 Diode module,

until for AC loads you can make combination with relays (we normally) use the attached schematic to to supply crititcal AC equipaments like switchs and routers:

Thank you all for these useful advises. Unfortunately I'm looking for something else (may be I formulated the question in wrong way..).

  I'm trying to find way to create redundant supply to the 1500 bus - to have two PS in redundant mode on the same bus. My reason is simple - my 1500 PLC has one CPU, one PS and 13 digital I/O modules. The PS is the most risky Single Point of Failure (SPF). If PS gives a trouble, all I/O are lost. The same is with the CPU but  CPU  has MTBF=46 years, but PS = 25-29 years. This is the story.

  In PS datasheet FH technology is mentioned - units are capable of redundancy. Is this  only for S7-400 F, FH systems only (I have some knowledge with these). Or there is some way to make bus supply redundant?

 I will be glad to see any suggestion.

I have tried to put 2 PS into Device configuration in TIA V14.1. The compiler shows a warning, but no errors. On the other hand it don't use both powersupplys when calculating power on backplane.

For redundance in 24V DC I sugest to use UPS 1100/1600. It's not the system bus, but who knows what happens if a PS is failing, there could be a risk that it draw down the complete backplane bus

Thanks, this is my feeling as well. Silly that non of 1500CPU doesn't feed more than 12 watt into the bus. CPU and PS can have their buss power combined but 12 w are too little for 11-12 modules.
