Hello naga; As far as functionnality goes, both resolvers and encoders provide rotational position information to a control system. Both are used in position/speed feedback applications involving motors. One of the main difference between the two is: the resolver provides analog information (a sine and a cosine wave) and the encoder (both absolute and incremental) provide numerical (binary) signals to the controller. So the capture and evaluation of the signal is different in both cases, and precision can be an issue with resolvers at higher speeds. . For basic information on both systems, have a look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resolver_(electrical) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotary_encoder |

Hai Mr. dchartier, Thank you very much. I come across various servo motors with built in resolvers. Bai, naga |
