Remote Access / Dial In

Hi all

I am looking to access a PCS7 system remotely to carry outdiagnostic checks on the PLCs andServers. The PCS7 systemis sitting of the coast of Australia and I am based in South Africa.

Does Siemens have a standard remote dial in facility that I could use or is there any other method that I could useto do this ?

well, this is a tough one, because PCS 7 is a bit special in this point. Only really dedicated solutions work with it... and are allowed.

Just seen form the communication side, without PCS 7, I would say for the PLCs you may use 2 solutions:

1. TELESERVICE IE, a solution to access Ethernet networks over dial in Modems. Well usable for even larger networks.... but without additional routers because the TS Adapter IE is already a Router.

2. Dial in/out Router, check this example in the application WANAccess methods.

Maybe this could show you a way.

I just talked to one of the PCS7 specialists I know and he told me that they would use Netmeeting to do this job. Well, if I think about the bandwidth of a analogue dial in line... I do not know if this is satisfying.
Technically the use of ISDN would be the minimum... in my mind, but does South Africa and Australia support ISDN... and especially the same version of ISDN? On the other hand, how do you think about broadband Internet? Is it available with your sites?

This is just something to think about.
