Remote connection with Scout

Normaly you must only enable IPRouting on the Remote PC. On the local PC you must add a route after connect the VPN. Then you can set the PG/PC Interfaceto the TeamViewer VPN Adapter and go online with Scout to the PLC. I have do this often and have no problems to go Online to the remote PLC. Regards Christoph

Regards Christoph Christoph, nice to see your post. Well, I have run the TV on both PC with the VPN option, everything went fine with TV, I mean, the VPN "seemed to be connected". I was not able to ping the Simotion or the HMI. So after this no connection was possible. What is IPRouting on the remote computer ? (Remote is the PC near machine or the programmer's PC ?) Question: The TV VPN creates a virtual ethernet card on both PCs. But this card has a strange IP set by TV. Is it necessary to change that IP ? And if yes, that IP must be compatible with Simotion's IP class ? Thanks a TON for this support, guys !

Normaly this remote have 2 NIC's, one for the corporate LAN and one for the PLC access. With the corporate LAN you connect with the TeamViewer and with the programmers PC. To get the access to the PLC the Ethernet Frames must routed from the VPN Adapter to the PLC LAN, in Windows XP you can enable this with the Registry Key : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\IPEnableRouter = 1 On the programmers PC you must add a route to config the systemthe way to the PLC: route add <IP of remote PLC> mask 255.255.255.255 <IP of Teamviewer VPN on remote PC> metric 1 With this settings you can connect the PLC from the programmers PC trough the customer PC. The configuration of the VPN adapters you must never change! Regards Christoph

Regards Christoph Thanks Cristoph, just to summarize everything: 1) Remote and programmer PCs start TV with VPN option enabled 2) On Remote computer the registry key (..\IPEnableRouter) must be st at 1 3) On Programmer Computer the route add command is launched Some other questions sorry: Simotion has IP : 11.0.1.1, HMI :11.0.1.2 1) On the remote PC customer is in internet with a WLAN card and connected to simotion with the LAN. The TV installs on that PC a virtual NIC. The IP of that virtual NIC must be the one that was assigned by TV. The IP of the LAN (which connects to Simotion) must be coherent with Simotion ? 2) In Simotion Scout, Set PG/PC Interface, I have to choose the TV VPN adapter instead of my classical LAN adapter and absolutely without changing its IP, correct ? 3) I am delighted of the usage of the route command. Just a stupid question, why connection will fail if we do not use the route command ? Why the system is not able to automatically search the simothion through the TV VPN adapter ? ChristophD Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 5/12/2006 Last visit: 11/7/2024 Posts: 22439 Rating: (3029)	Hello, 1) yes the IP on the LAN which connected to the SIMOTION must be in the IP Range of the PLC (f.e. 11.0.1.3) 2) yes correct.Please reboot after the Registry changing ! 3) the problem is that you have more than one net. The connection always work if all devices are in the same net, but in your case the programmer PC knows nothing about the PLC-Net on the customer site. With the route command you tell your system thats the Subnet 11.0.1.x is accessableover theTV VPN Adapter is using. To get access to all devices in the Net 11.0.1.x you should use the following command: route add 11.0.1.0 mask 255.255.255.0 <IP of Teamviewer VPN on remote PC> metric 1 There is no way to get the connection informations automaticalyif the devices are behind arouter. Tip: If you have always a NIC in your programmers PC with a IP from 11.0.1.x deactivate it Regards Christoph

I have only to consider one more step that is that both TV and Scout and WinCC are run in an Oracle Virtual Machine (Virtual Box), but I think that this is not problematic ... You are really pro. On PC I will install teamviewer. Can you tell me where I can find information how to configure TV to get to the PLC network with TV VPN option? How to block all internet connection except tv vpn?

When I started this project my computer was running Windowx XP Pro and I didn't quite get it working before my hard drive crashed. With the new hard drive my computer is now running Windows 7 Pro and Scout no longer shows the TeamViewer VPN as a choice for communication adapters. Have you tried this with Windows 7 and Scout V4.3.1.17? Do you have any idea why the VPN adapter is not shown? Thanks, Andy
