There are two major categories of remote control applications:
- with a central control center for the management of a larger amount of sites
- and without control center, where the conenction is more sporadic or on demand (teleservice).

How about using Teamviewer for remote monitoring. Here is also a previous post on how to use Teamviewer VPN. Also another post about wireless communication here.
