Remote support via VPN to Profibus network

Roamingoat Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Hi everyone, I have a system comprising S7 CPU313-2DP, IM151 remote i/o and 2 HMIs, TP277 and TP177. All strung on a profibus network along with a PC running WinCC Flexible with a CP5613 card. If I get a VPN connection via my clients network into the PC, can I communicate with the Profibus to allow me to remote support the PLC and HMIs from my office. The Step7 and WinCC configuration software would be installed on my office computer, not on the site computer. If this is possible, can anyone give me some guidance. Thank you Roamingoat.

The good newsis that PG Routing to the PLC will work, as you have SIMATIC NET installed on the PC you want to use as Gateway. You will have to make sure that a configuration is loaded to it that allows you to do as you want. See this FAQ: Which requirements have to be fulfilled to perform a STEP 7 Routing via a PG/PC Station? The bad newsis that the HMI Devices will not work with this. In case of the HMI they require MPI or PROFIBUS to start from for PG Routing. Best regards J_Bell

Roamingoat Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Dear J_Bell, I am most grateful for your valuable assistance. I am awaiting delivery of the NET software but it appears straightforward from the FAQ you provided. Can you just clarify your last remark concerning the HMIs. It is not a disaster if we can't communicate with them but it would have been convenient to be able to download new configurations if required. Many thanks Roamingoat
