I'm going to propose for a leak detection system.

there is a pipeline around 700km, and there 30 stations along this pipeline.

each station has around 3 to 6 analog input

there will be fiber optic for communication

which protocol you suggest that we can use?

can we use OLM and ET200M-2 in each RTU and have a central CPU at origin?

the anywer is yes, you can use CPU at the origin and ET200M/S nodes. Communication protocol can be both PROFIBUS/ProfiNet, but then you must be careful about which SCALANCE/OLM you are about to use. There is also a problem with maximum fibre optic cable length - depenging on mutual distance between each RTU.

 PROFIBUS is ruled out as Average distance between nodes ( 700kM / 30  ) = 26kM

Maximum Distance for Profibus OLM is 15kM

you are right - I also mentioned in my post that maximum cable length must be considered. It is possible only with installation of additional equipment - which ofcourse makes it inconvinient and expensive.

If data latency is not an issue, Telecontrol Server in conjuction with GSM looks like a good idea for this case.

What catches my eyes is the "Leak Detection".

I hope you know that it requires know how and customized software solutions.

I have a case study for a company/integrator thought it's possible to execute such project without help from Siemens and the results were catastrophic.
