in case that module is same type and version, you can replace it of course without any change in HW. You need check carefully documentation to modules (also in case of Update to new version or simply only one that can exists now for sale) that it can be simply only replacebale or you need change also HW cfg. Spare part is simply expected as same part you have on your store or also sometimes called part not available for sale now, simly due new existing which replace that old type/s. version and firmware plays role here...

yes but also other complication can exists logically, some option can be set about save cfg on CPU memory, not CP and then your step can be only that I mentioned before in case of same module. Simply if this option is set (Save cfg of CP to CPU PLC), you need simply reconfigure HW cfg with new CP, no other way probably. Also as you've already mentioned, new CP can use new blocks due new capabilities, changes in firmw, same way of course.
