KRS2008104567 Posts: 24 Rating: (0)	When we replaced CP341 module last year and the replacement went successful without loading any drivers. However, yesterday when we did the same procedure to another PLC, problem in serial communication still persists, only RX LED is blinking and TX LED remains not lit. As suggested by siemens representative drivers are needed to be installed. How come at the previous replacement it worked without any driver installation? Please advise what next steps we need to take to resolve these issues. We highly appreciate your usual support and assistance. Regards.

CP-341 has several integrated Drivers e.g. ASCII , 3964R , etc . In case these drivers have been used, then you can just remove the existing CP-341 and plug in the new CP-341. However several loadable drivers are also available for CP-341 e.g. Modbus ASCII 16-Bit and 32-Bit Loadable Drivers for CP341 Loadable Driver Modbus Slave (RTU) Loadable Driver "Modbus Master (RTU)" Loadable Driver DataHighway (DF1) In case of loadable drivers, after replacement of the CP341, the driver has to be downloaded to the module. Pl follow the following procedure : Remove the existing module. Remove the Blue Colored Hardware Dongle at the back of the old module Plug the dongle into the new module. Install the new module into the Rack. Download the Relevent Driver from the corresponding link provided above ( Pl check the version ) Download the Driver to the CP-341 ( Procedure provided in the manuals available on the above links ) Hope this helps Cheers Navnag

Can you explain further how come the previous replacement it was simply a plug-and-play.Both the PLCshave the exact CPU and Serial Comm Module Model and and the models that we replaced them with are also exactly the same. Additional information: the two PLCs are daisy chained connected and the serial communication protocol is Modbus. Regards.

You can just check if the original CP341 had a Blue Dongle inserted in the back. If there is no dongle present then that means that the CP was using the internal drivers and it can be replaced as Plug and Play. If the Dongle is present then it shows that Loadable driver has been used. In this case after replacement, you need to additionally download the loadable driver. You should also check if you are replacing the CP341 with the same firmware version as the original module. Firmware version can be easily check using Module Diagnostists. KRS2008104567 Posts: 24 Rating: (0)	Thanks for the prompt reply. The CP 341 module replacement does not have Dongle. The firmware is different from the original module installed but as suggestedand recommended bythe OEM itis compatible. So what you are saying, if there is no Dongle it should be 100% plug-and-play, right? Regards.

In your case Old Firmware and new Firmware do seem to have an issue. Pl Check : Basis Firmware Update for CP 341 As per this Update : The new firmware version V2.1.0 optimizes the data throughput of the CP341-V2: To be able to utilize the higher performance you require the "Configuration Package for Point to Point Communication“ with version V5.1 incl. SP11 (see entry ID 27013524). The parameterization data for the CP341-V2 (FW version V2.1.0 and higher) must be newly generated with PtP-Param V5.1.11 for this purpose. Therefore you should regenerate the PtP Parameters for this CP341 and download to the CPU. Alternatively you can downgrade the firmware version ( I would however not recommend this ) Hope this helps Cheers Navnag

Does this mean that the modules are with Modbus RTU slave driver dongles ? You will never know .... maybe it already had the driver downloaded by someone ... Cheers Navnag
