Replacing PCU20 with PCU50

Khan G Posts: 31 Rating: (0)	Actually I am out of office. I will send you the detail of operating panel tomorrow. Actually we think that PCU20 is dos base and PCU50 is windows base. So we want to upgrade the machine to windows base system so we want to use pcu50 on that machine. But this is my first experience. So want to know that 1. Can I just to purchase the PCU50 and can install on machine or we also needed some other components. 2. please also send me the complete procedure for how to replace PCU50 with PCU20 i.e To replace or to install the files or other program. ŠΜS Silver Member Joined: 6/7/2010 Last visit: 7/9/2024 Posts: 571 Rating: (37)	Dear Khan, For your point no 2, you no need to transfer NC & PLC backup's to PCU 50.If you need part programs , you can transfer it through win pcin which you usually do it in PCU20.Only thing when you open windows for first time in PCU50,you have to run HMI software, it is also gendral installation life other softwares.

Ekalavya Posts: 2964 Rating: (482)	Hello.... PCU20 is HMI embedded (HMI is inbulit) it is not DOS were as PCU50 is HMI advanced(HMI has to be installed on Hard disk) .... Yes you can purchase the PCU50 while purchasing ask for HMI software install on the PCU50... You need to check the compatibility of you NC version based on this HMI software will be selected. If yes, how to do this? best regards Splitted from how to prepare new PCMCIA card to work with CCU?. ====================== hi, it is easy. just remove pcu20,and install pcu50, more important cableis MPI. that's it. as your m/c using pcu20, almost everything(NC/PLC DATA, part prog )in NCK memory. after you replacing w. pcu 50, making a backup of abovedata. I did this many times per day. on my demo. 840D only one thing i did not try. before you replacing ,make backup w. winpcin the user alarm text to you ext. PC (using tape format).then print it out. I think you should edit this on pcu50 HD, by yourself. REF* Doconweb.840D alarm text PCU50/MMC103........ try it and good luck.

John @ PPL Posts: 22 Rating: (0)	Good post, I've been trying to find out about this Technically WindowsXP Embedded will work on Caldera DOS7.03 from the PCU20 provided you have a decent sized CF/PCMCIA card in the PCU20, you should just get one of Bill Gates' rubbish compatibilty messages on boot up. System specs of my PCU20 are above min recommended by MS for XPe This is all theoretical though, I have never tried it. There has also been talk on the web of USB Mass Storage drivers for Caldera but I wouldn't know where to start adding drivers to an embedded OS. Probably need SinucomPCIN and MPI cable too at cost of £600+ to even try this. Some PCU50's seem to be running windowsNT4 too, not all XPe What is the price for a new PCU50/70 w/2.0ghz CPU, XPe, suitable for Simo611 & 810D??? not inconsiderable I bet! Then theres the cost of commissioning. Thats some upgrade just for slightly newer software, USB port and More storage. Or do you need the extra processing BHP. Wishing I had an 828D :( John
