Hello all,

I have been given a project to read data tags from an S7-300 controller with CPU 317-2 DP. The goal is to feed the data into an OPC client. I am unfamiliar with siemens hardware and am unsure how to approach this. I hoping that someone has some experience with this and could offer some advice on how to start. I know that the cpu has an mpi/dp comms interface and I am hoping I could use that somehow. 

I have TIA Portal but I only have WINCC RT Professional and WINCC Professional licenses (no STEP 7). I have done this in the past by creating a simatic PC and an instance of WINCC RT Pro. along with setting up a comms driver and importing necessary tags. Although I used TCP/IP (see pic). Maybe I can use some sort of MPI >> Ethernet TCP/IP gateway?? If anyone has any advice, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your response, this seems to help a bit. Although the biggest challenge in this would be that I don't have access to the PLC program. I would be nice if there was something that could fetch the DB tags and read them into my pc. But I will try to look into this option as well. Cheers!

 Do you have related wincc (runtime) project in your pc station? You can also configure HMI device as opc server(Classic/UA).in this manual you can find more about wincc advance v14.

I've tested this solution with wincc runtime v7.0 sp3 as opc da server and using cogent data hub  as da tunneller .

another possible solution is to use third party opc servers.
