SMART DEXTER Posts: 38 Rating: (0)	Hello , We have V.T.L. having 4 axes in which older CNC controller is there .It has Two tool posts having individual NC so that any NC alarm will not interrupt other tool post . We are planning to have a 840 D controller in that .We know it is not required 810 D is capable of having it .But t maintain the spares we are having the same controller on all the machine . I haven't much knowledge of retrofitting but can you suggest me wheather I can go for single 840 D or two 802 D ???? Please help in that . Regards, PAM

shanny Posts: 44 Rating: (0)	Hi Pam, Both solutions would work but the 802D solution might require 2 lots of drives as I am not sure if you can hook up two 802D's to one set of Siemens Digital Drives. The 840D solution looks neater to me. You can use different channels for each set of axes and the spindle command can be easily swapped from one to the other. A channel is basicallya Seperate NC in its own right. If one channel has an error then the other channel can still continue unless it is drive related. The channels can be in different modes as well. i.e. One can be running a program in auto while the other is in Jog mode. Likewise you can run two seperate programs at the same time one for each set of axes and synchronise the two programs where required. Hope this helps
