HydroPLC Posts: 13 Rating: (0)	Thanks, I updated the firmware on S7-1212C AC/DC/RLY to v 2.03, stilll hardware interrupt did not work using TIA v10.5 sp2. Then I upgraded the PLC firmware to the latest v2.2 , relaeased on 12-21-2011 and used TIA portal v11 basic sp2 and still the Hardware interrupt did not work. So it may not be a bug. Is it possible that the PC itself may be a problem,but that does not makes sense that all it does is communicating with PLC which dioes the actual interrupt. Any platinum experts at the forum such as Pegaia can join the discussion?

What specifically I am trying to measure is the number of pulses and pulse per minute when a limit switch senses a reciprocationg piston. maximum pulse/minute expected is about 600 pulses / minute (10 pulses/second) and minimum is expected at 60 pulses per/minute (1 pulse/second). If I use a regular input without interrupt, it is likely that some of the pulses will be lost because of PLC cycle time. The only one input is available from the limit switch. Is it possible to use HSC with this application. There is no home position such as in an encoder. Thanks.

Gabriel de Oliveira Bronze Member Joined: 2/16/2011 Last visit: 3/23/2023 Posts: 229 Rating: (26)	Dear Hydro; Last year, I did an solution using s71200 that make mesurement of pulse frequency using HSC0, but in HSC you don't have rising edge event, just event when the counter value = reference value, so I configured the External Reset of HSC, and when you configure the external reset there is the possibiliti to create an Interrupt to the rising of the external reset. I configured one High speed output to pulse in 100Khz and did a eletric conection to a second HSC1, and each Reset event of HSC0 we have a time between the actual pulse and the last one with High precicion. 5us. But it is just an idea. Regards

HydroPLC Posts: 13 Rating: (0)	Gorp, I will rebview the attchment in your post later. But this email is to let you know and benefit interested others that I got your program running on two PLCs. I had sent a copy of the program to Siemens support for testing and for whatever reason, they tested the program and worked on a version 1.02 firmware even though I used 1.0 and all version 2..0 and above. So as a trial, I changed firmware to v1.02 and it worked. I have come to an unscientific conclusion (for lack of eough additional testing) that there are some bugs in the firmware versions erlier to v1.02 with respect to hardware interrupt. Thanks again for the unrelenting follow up. I am also trying to measure the pulse fequency. I believe, inside the interrupt routine, I should be able to starta a timer at first count and find the elapsed time at every subsequent count. Find difference and divide with appropriate measurement units and get the speed.

HydroPLC Posts: 13 Rating: (0)	Gorp, Thanks for your unrelenting support. The program you sent worked on 2 PLCs, I tried, when I used a firmware version 1.02. May be earlier firmware versions have bugs in hardware interrup. I am also trying to count the pulse frequency from these counts. I believe that I should be able to find time diffterence between successsive pulses using a standard timer and then dividing (with units considered) one pulse by the time interval, all within the interrupt routine.

As you sad before, 10 pulses / second = 100 ms per pulses, what is the pulse duration? I think you can use simple counter in the main program, because the default input filter is 6 ms and a common program takes less then 10 ms to scan. Regards.

HydroPLC Posts: 13 Rating: (0)	Gabriel, I will try the code you attached and rate it as you requested. The sensing device is a proximity switch, which may be ON for about 5 to 10 degrees (in 360 degrees of harmonic motion) of a cycle, which is (5/360)*10 msec = say about one to two millisecond pulse width. Past experience has shown that regular (non-interrupt) input in normal cycle misses counts and is inconsistent. Thabnks gain.
