RS232C error-Error on COM Open

PISCEAN 2010 Diamond Expert Joined: 4/23/2010 Last visit: 12/8/2023 Posts: 8068 Rating: (861)	Hello Experts, We have equipped system with following configuration, Sinumerik 840DE NCU 571.5, 400 MHz, 64MB with PCU 50.3-C,40GB HDD, 1.5GHz, 512 MB, WinXP Pro Embsys with HMI Adva with E/R module 16/21 KW. The machine is equipped with SIMOVERT VC AC drive 286 A, &MICROMASTER 440 55 KW.ASi interface system is used for input, output interfacing. System is with teleremote facility. When we try to take series start up data with RS232C on PG,the message as " RS232C error-Error on COM Open" dispalyed & job gets terminated. I checked the RS232C setting on machine & on PG & set as per the requirement.Checked the cable found OK, moreover with the same cableI could take the back upfrom other machine. Then why the above alarm gets displayed? Can any one help me?

Pee Ell Sea Posts: 672 Rating: (56)	Hi Deep, I've not used that particular pcu50 but I notice that Siemens have a service bulletin that states the PCU50.3-c as from 5/1/11 will be shipped with a new BIOS and integrated com1. This make me think that the com port on older pcu's is non functional but you may be able to update the BIOS. Have a chat with Siemens direct if you can and find out. Pee

After confirmation of COM port hardware functionality & system parameter setting of activation of COM port, then BIOS update option can be checked. But at this point I don’t think it as a culprit. I think some parameter I am missing which needs to be check & otherwise hardware related problem with COM port. So can you help me or suggset me as, are there any parameters which are related to activation of COM port? & how to check functionality of COM port hardware?

What I feelin my case is, the message I am getting is related with COM port on 840DE PCU system & not with COM port on my PG. So whether the same procedure shall be applicable or how to check it? Another point is, by setting machine data value in 840DE, can the function of COM port be made ON-OFF? One more thing, this specific control is with tele-remote facility. By any chance,will it affect the functioning of COM port. Please do share.
