RS485 Repeater Connections

frajo Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	On the RS485 repeater there are 4 cable point connections A1, B1, A1' & B1' at the top side of the unit and A2, B2, A2' & B2' at the bottom of the unit. My question is, if i have a segment that i wish to repeat due to distance of the single segment, what terminal on the repeater do I connect to? 1/ The top terminals (A1, B1, A1' & B1') and leave the bottom terminals unconnected. or 2/ The bottom terminals (A2, B2, A2' & B2') and leave the top terminals unconnected. I presume I dont use A1, B1 on the top _and_ A2, B2 on the bottom as this would be associated as connecting two segments (seg1 & seg2). If it's option 1 or 2 - do I need to use the 'OFF' switch on the unit? Regards frajo

GrzegorzG Posts: 63 Rating: (19)	If your network segment is too long than you have to divide it to two segments. Then use top terminals A1_B1 (or A1'_B1') for 1st segment and bottom A2_B2 (or A2'_B2') for 2nd segment. Terminals A1_B1 and A1'_B1' are electrically connected inside repeater (the same apply for A2_B2 and A2'_B2'), so there is no function between them. OFF switch disconnects segments 1 and 2.
