Run Green/Error Flashing Red?

SparkyDude Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	I've got a Siemens Simatic S7 - 1200. Everything else seems to run fine however I am having trouble with it not reading a pressure transducer. Does not recognise it despite all connections fine. Nothing has been change but I have noticed that the Error LED is flashing Red. The Run Led is Constant Green. The other LED is not on at all. I figure this is an error but how do I distinguish if it is CPU, Memory fault or Config Fault. Furthermore, how can I fix this? Has been powered off. All connections checked. Our usual PLC technician is away and unavailable. I do not have access to any software, IP or online portals.

Not having access to software is like not having a multimeteter and wanting to know the voltage in a circuit. <s> Doing a tongue test? </s> Firstly get the manual for the PLC: SIMATIC S7 S7-1200 Programmable controller. There in is a description of the LED states and its meaning. Unfortunately "flashing" is not enough of a description. Electrically check if the voltages are at the levels you would expect. Confirm by using the manual where the power connections are. Disconnecting field wiring may be needed. Disconnect the pressure transducer first to see if there is a change. Also check if the pressure transducer gives out a voltage / current. Do you have an HMI connected to the system? Perhaps their is a PLC centred diagnostic available. You need to read the "diagnostic buffer" of the PLC for a detailed report. You might be able to use Proneta to get the diagnostic buffer. Get that here: PRONETA Basic 3.5 Commissioning and Diagnostics Tool for PROFINET. Otherwise trial versions of the software is available.. but you need to know which version. Beyond these steps: send this voluntary forum wiring diagrams, photos and description of part numbers of the PLC and cards. Alternatively use the "Support Request" link on this page to connect to the Siemens Support team. Good luck.

0_Einstein Diamond Expert Joined: 7/7/2010 Last visit: 1/24/2025 Posts: 15558 Rating: (2468)	Connect the pressure transducer to a test fixture used for calibration / calibration check. Verify the signal coming out (whether voltage or current in mA) is correct for the various pressures around the range it normally operates. If it produces the correct electrical output for a given pressure, then the pressure transducer is ok. Otherwise, it's the problem. This check does not require any PLC access and confirms the most likely cause of failure from a normally running system that suddenly stops reading pressure correctly. The Transducer is confirmed working, have also tested another confirmed working one with same result. The lights flashing in the manual say Error - CPU, CONFIG or Memory mulfunction. Nothing else. Green is on constant for Run, Error light is flashing red. Maint light off. Power seems to be as it should be, I've tested with multimeter. SparkyDude Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	Thanks to all the volunteers that tried to help. I know it wasn't much to go by. Just an update in case anyone else has a similar issue. The issue ended up being the ABB VSD lost its IP config so there was a communication issue. The drive provides the PLC with the pressure sensor value via profinet so losing the IP details is what triggered the issue. The PLC is fine. It was just a config issue. The VSD had the 192. of the IP missing.
