A simple code example: M1.0 +----------+ ---\| / \|---------------\| S_ODT\|-----(M1.0) S5T#1s \|TV \| +----------+ M1.0 I0.0 +------------+ --\| \|------\| \|-------\| ADD_DI \| MD4\|IN1 OUT\|MD4 L#1\|IN1 OUT\| +------------+ M1.0 is now a 1 second pulse. Every time the timer is done M1.0 is high 1 cycle. this is used to increment MD4 with one. Now MD4 holds a actual time (given a certain accuracy) in seconds.

First, there are up to 8 run-time meters you can run through SFC2, SFC3 and SFC4,with these you can initialize, start and reset inbuilt run-time meters. Please check the manual System and Standard functions eithjer from the Siemens support website, or the version that was installed on your computer along with Step 7 documentation. Siemens has also prepared a downloadable runtime meter function, originially for those who needed to run more run-time meters than were available in the SFC versions. To my taste, it is even more compact and complete that the SFC version, you should study it and decide for yourself. I would like to know whether the block would run foryears and keep onaccumulating the values, as a result of which the end customer can know the total run hours of there machine after installations. A DINT variable can hold a decimal value between +/- 2 147 483647, which, divided by 24 hours/day and 365 days/year will give you around 245146.5 years of runtime monitoring (taking the positive unipolar range only). Even without counting leap years, that should be enough for most earthly applications I know of... ;-) However, I would most certainly send the runtoime hours to a seperate register, making sure it is retentive, so that this value is always available for monitoring by the user. There is no description of what will happen to the accumulated value of the runtime meterin case of shutdown or power glitch on the CPU, so I would take no chances. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier
