S120 & S7 PLC - Beginners guide to controlling drive using traversing

befuddled Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	Hi all, I hope someone can help me.....I am very much a beginner at drive control/traversing blocks. I have a CU310DP/S120 drive which can already be controlled from an S7-315-2DPPLC using the Easy EPOS function block......I can demand a position......and see themotor moving to achieve that position. I now wish to implement the use of traversing blocks in the drive. The traversing blockparameters will be held by the PLC and downloaded tothe drive.....if this is possible. My question is: Does anyone have, or know of, abeginners guide/example showing step-by-step what isnecessary for using traversing blocks from an S7-PLC? Hoping someone can help. Cheers, Pete

befuddled Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	Hi guys, I did find something........eventually. It is not a step-by-step guide....but it will point you in the right direction. There is a small manual by Siemens called 'S7 Simple Positioning Applications with Sinamics S120 Drives. The PLC communicates with the drive using the Sinamics S120 positioning function block (see page 39 of the manual). Contained within thePLC data block are the parameters which are applicable specifically to the S120 Traversing Blocks. Using Traversing Blocks -(see page 43 of the manual) Using a normal PLC write you can writevalues S120 datablock traversing block parameters in the PLC and these values are transferred to the traversing block parameters contailed within the drive. For each traversing block youuse you will need to write the parameters forJob Type, Parameter, Mode, Position, Velocity, Accel , Decel, Advance Type (Note: whether values are required for all of these is dependent on the chioces you make...see the manual). To actuallyget the drive to carry outthe traversing block: 1)Write the value of the traversing block number you wish to use to the TravBlockNo node of the S120 positioning function block, then 2)Write the ExecuteTBvalue to the Commandword of the S120 positioning DB. You can do thisby loadingthe value contained in Axis.Consts.CommandList.ExecuteTB(this value is a constant)and transferring it to theCommand word in the S120 positioning DB. That is about as much detail asI can go into. I hope this helps.

befuddled Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	Hi, the manual has on the cover: 'Applications & Tools' 'Application S120 & S7 Easy EPOS' 'S7 Simple Positioning Applications with Sinamics S120 Drives' You are probably best getting in touch with Siemens tech support to get the manual Due to the Siemens website being about as user friendly as a cornered rat, it will not allow me to post the manual.
