It appears that i can only extract the complex error (~1000 variations), not the simple diagnostic message number that appears on the 7 seg display. (~20 variations) i simply want to give the operator more than nothing, but not give them so much technical error info that it becomes pointless at their level.

But for some faults which are shown in the display there are faults is TIA which do have the same meaning. The description may be a little bit different but the basic meaning is the same.
