S210 Not Homing with Single-turn Absolute

I have an S210 drive (V5.2) with a Single-turn absolute encoder, controlled by S7-1500, configured with TIA V15.1. The axis is on a lead screw with a switch at one end.

When I try to execute MC_Home with Mode 5 (Active Homing), I get error 8011, telling me that the Active homing mode doesn't work with absolute encoders. Why not?? Because my axis is not multi-turn, I need to find my lead screw position after power-up.

It looks like I now have to manually program the full sequence of moves and hardware input capturing.

Is there any way I can avoid this? Can I trick my axis into thinking the encoder is incremental?

Unfortunately, Mode 7 only "passively" homes the axis (ie no axis movement). I want to be able to actively home off a limit switch (its a single-turn with a lead screw, so I still need to home after power up.

My hope was I could use the configured active homing routine (mode 5) to save a bunch of programming. But now it looks like I have to program it myself (e.g. move one direction, capture limit switch input, move off, passively home, etc).

It seems arbitrarily restrictive to not allow mode 5 to work with an absolute encoder, or to not have some other mode for using the Active Homing configuration with absolute encoders.

it is possible to do active homing, you just need to set your encoder type in the technology object configuration to "incremental" instead of "absolute". If you not want to use the absolute information and do a homing each time after the machine is switched on, this would be the correct setting for you.

Unfortunately, with S210 drives it does not let you choose "incremental" for the TO. It is greyed out and the data comes from the motor you picked. And if you try to pick a different motor with an incremental encoder, the drive faults due to the mismatch (target vs actual).

I know about Modes 1,2,6,7. My complaint is that there is no way to perform the motion configured in the TO configuration ("Active Homing"). This is needed on a system with a single-turn absolute encoder and lead screw.

is it possible to change the encoder type in the TO config to "cyclic absolute"? This could be a chance with the absolute encoder homing modes (6,7) to avoid an active homing procedure after each restart. I think there is a chance that the TO counts the revolutions of the singleturn encoder and stores it remanently to keep the position after power off/on. Even with the lead screw and singleturn encoder I would try this.

P.S. Or you use the GSDML file of the S210 for connection to the TO and then you can select "incremental" for sure as encoder type.
