S5-95U and ET200S

But because I am dealing with Simatic S5 lately it would not be last My question is this: Should S5-95U with Profibus Master work with ET200S (IM 151-1)? if not what ET200 system do you recommend? ET200M (IM 153-1) maybe? I have to replace old WAGO remote I/O units and we want to use ET200 system. CPU S5-95U with Profibus Master port will remain until full migration. Are there any limitations for using ET200S or ET200M with S5-95U? Thank You!

fritz Diamond Expert Joined: 10/7/2005 Last visit: 6/6/2023 Posts: 2966 Rating: (1025)	Hello simaticfan79 let me start by welcoming you to this Forum followed by some good news answer to your questions which is: You can in principle use/operate any DP Slave on the 95U's DP Master port and the FAQ "DP slaves on AG95 DP master" also verifies this. What this FAQ unfortunately neglegts totell you is that if you operate a DP Slave on a 95U that is a.) capable of issuing more than 32 Bytes of Diagnostic data and b.) does so for whatever reasons will cause aCPU stop! COM Profibus V5.x checks the DP Slave GSD file for this and will thus NOT allow you to configure DP Slaves fora 95U DP Master that are capable of sending more than 32 Bytes of Diagnostic data (older versions of COM Profibus do NOT check for this, see also HERE for more on this). What I suggest you do is this: Decide on a range of DP Slaves that you would behappy to use asa replacement for the WAGO DP Slaves. Download their GSD files, do a test config of them in COM Profibus V5.x (which will tell you if can or can not use them) and then decide which ones to order. If you do not have COM Profibus V5.x, you can alternatively open each GSD with a text Editor and search for the "Max_Diag_Data_Len" entry in them, any one with a value bigger than 32 is off limits. Alternatively, consider replacing the 95U with an S7 first and later replace theWAGO I/O's with now any DP Slave that you can think off. Late Platinum Expert Joined: 1/7/2006 Last visit: 2/16/2023 Posts: 2705 Rating: (311)	Dear Fan, The only thing you have to be aware off is that the S5 95U only could address PROFIBUS Standard I/O. That means that acyclic datatransfer will not work DP V0 (and DP V1 also). But normally that is only for I/O that needs extra parametrizing after starting up. Normally this I/O is also in the GSD-file but will then be standard (that is what you most of the time not want).

But now we have a lot of problems with WAGO I/O therefore WAGO has to be replaced first immediately. CPU works great for now (knock,knock). After distributed I/O migration we would have more time to prepare for S5 to S7 migration. As I see it on this link ET200S in not on the list. Does that mean that ET200S 100% DOES NOT work with S5-95U? ET200S is similar size as WAGO and it would be best solution for replacement... So as I see it ET200M is the only solution... Am I right? What would be the reason that ET200S does not work with S5-95U and that ET200M does? Where is the difference? Thank You!

Please read my previous entry again carefully and do the checksthat I suggest you doto determine if you can use a particular DP Slave on a 95U (i.e. do a test config im COM Profibus or search the GSD forthe "Max_Diag_Data_Len" entry). Bottom line: Any DP Slave that is capable of issuing more than 32 Bytes of Diagnostic data is off limits for your 95U and while I haven't check all available ET200M or S, you'' find that most (or all) recent oneswill NOT be useable as they have a "Max_Diag_Data_Len" of greater than 32. I hope this helps

I've done some research and found out this: I asked my colleague with COM PROFIBUS V5.1+SP2 to configure profibus network with S5-95U as Master and ET200M (IM153-1) as slave. He called me that COM PROFIBUS reports msg. that IM153-1 is not compatible with S5-95U master. The same msg. is reported with ET200S - IM151. But, msg is not reported when ET200S with CPU is configured as slave... Is COM PROFIBUS program to trust? In this case ET200S with CPU could be used for slave?! I have also looked into GSD file for current WAGO 750-303 module that already works with S5-95U and Max_Diag_Data_Len = 64 Is Max_Diag_Data_Len only condition for slave to work with S5-95U? I am sorry to bother you guys, I would test it myself but machine works 24/7 and currently I have no chance for testing Thank You!

Put simple, COM Profibus version older than V5.x did allow the configuration of DP Slaves that had more than 32 Bytes of Diagnostic data. Problem is that your 95U would go into Stop if any of those DP Slaves would have issued a Diagnostic message that is longer than 32 Bytes so a check was added to COM PB V5.x that now no longer allows this combination. The way I see it you have two options: 1.) Use a DP Slave that has a "Max_Diag_Data_Len" > 32 Bytes, configure it in COM Profibus V3.3 or older and run the risk of a 95U Stop in case the DP Slave issues an extended Diagnostic message. 2.) Use a DP Slave that has a "Max_Diag_Data_Len" <= 32 Bytes and you won't take any 95U Stop risks. Question: How many I/O's does each WAGO DP Slave have? Perhaps you can get by with a less modular DP Slave as a replacement (e.g. ET200L instead of ET200M or S) as theytypically also have smaller "Max_Diag_Data_Len" values. I hope this helps

I've read FAQ carefully and I understand everything that You said in previous posts about Max_Diag_Data_Len. I also know, that that COM PROFIBUS V5.x checks diagnostic byte length. I just wanted to say in my last post, that I was surprised to see that COM PROFIBUS V5.x puts an warning msg. if I want to configure ET200M to work with S5-95U; and ET200M is listed on FAQ that 100% works with S5-95U. And I was also surprised to see, that in GSD file for WAGO 750-303 has Max_Diag_Data_Len = 64 and WAGO works OK with S5-95U. Now I understand... 1: S5-95U will 100% work with any slave that has Max_Diag_Data_Len <=32 2: Slave that has Max_Diag_Data_Len >32 can be configured in COM PROFIBUS V3.3 and it might work (like WAGO 750-303). But also it might not work. 3: Slave GSD file can be changed and I can put Max_Diag_Data_Len=32 for slave that has Max_Diag_Data_Len > 32. COM PROFIBUS will allow this configuration. But in practice it might work but also it might not work. Am I right? In my case we have 3 WAGO slaves with total 90 DI and 90 DO. Roughly 30DI and 30DO per 1 slave. I'll also take a look at other ET200 options. Thank You for Your patient!
