S5 CPU103 and CPU100 interchangeable

davemanship Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	Hi All, Hope this isnt too daft a question but I have a S5 100U CPU 103 which has failed. I also have a S5 100U CPU 100 which I was hoping would be interchangeable. I have swapped units over and inserted eeprom but it does not appear to load into the new CPU100 (no output lights). I have verified that the eeprom is ok by reloading it back onto old 103. My questions are :- Are they compatable? and Can you change from a cpu 103 to a cpu 100? Many thanks Dave

A CPU103 has 10 times the internal RAM than a CPU100("10240 statement" vs "1024 statements") anddoes alsosupport more "advanced" instructions (e.g. indirect addressing, substitution operations for FB's, decrement & increment etc. etc.) So assuming your program size is small enough to fit into a 100U (or you can make it small enough), you'll also have to check the program itself and replace any of the"advanced" instructions to make it work (possibly not worth the effort, but if you want to go down this path you'll find all the required info in the S5-100U Programmable Controller manual). I hope this helps
