S5 hardware compatibility

Sidewinder Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	Hi, I am wondering please if someone could help me out here please. I have recently replaced a 6ES5095-8MA04 with a 6ES095-8MA03 for a client as this was what they had as a spare. I did as much research as I could and could find nothing to tell me that there was a specification difference in the units. However the 03 unit would not work. Can anyone provide me with, or pointers to, the technical specs to see if there is a difference, or could it just be that the 03 is faulty, even though, it is supposed to be OK? Generally it worked fine, about 80% of the machine functions worked, it was just one operation that would not function, all the machine functions are identical, there are say 6 off of them and 5 worked, the rest of the general control side worked fine. Thanks for any help that can be given.

Sidewinder Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	Thank you for your help IBN. I had already checked that manual and could find no reference to the -03 version, only the -04. I have tracked a document down here: https://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/llisapi.dll?func=cslib.csinfo&lang=en&objID=37217116&subtype=133200 I hope the link works. To your other questions, I can load the programme from the 04 version into the 03 fine, & the unit runs, the comms stays up as the front end hmi confirms, so the PLC stays running. The machine has 6 manually controlled axes, it is a steel rolls. Just one of the 6 does not work with the 03 unit. I did not have time to do a full diagnostic on site, but, on the test bench, the 03 processor is seeing all the inputs and driving all the outputs when set manually. The machine does use counters and analogue inputs, so, I was wondering if the 03 unit had less of these devices perhaps? I am not at the client site now and the machine schematics are there, but, I do have the S5 programme. It is more for my own curiosity to be honest, they are running currently with a loan 04 unit. If we have to we will get a replacement 04 unit, I would just love to know why the 03 only partially worked!

If we have to we will get a replacement 04 unit, I would just love to know why the 03 only partially worked! Sorry, I can't tell you. I quick check my manuals but do not find any significant change. Sometimes, the scan time and adress rangement of new CPU - editions increase. Perhaps the I/O range for axis 6 is not supported in M03? Or there is a chance that your Model M03 is damaged?
