S5 Peripheral I/O

JB2020 Posts: 9 Rating: (0)	Hi, I'm performing an S5 to S7 upgrade and would just like to resolve an addressing issue.... From com profibus upload, I have a profibus slave with I Addr P020 and O Addr: P020. The code writes to this area using PQW and PIW format. On the main rack (115U CPU943)I have an output card which is Q20 according to it's slot position. Outputs Q20.x are not used in the code and I have no drawings for this machine! Is PQW20 the sameoutputs as QW20 in S5 or are they independent? Thanks, John

Hello JB2020 they are the same address for all intends and purposes. The only difference is that PQW20 is direct peripheral access and will be sendstraight to theoutput address, whereas QW20 is located in the Process Image which willthen be transferred to the output address by the operating system after the OB1 program scan hasfinished. As such, having an I/O card withIW/QW address 20 in the central rack and an IM308C DP Slave with I Address P020 and O Address P020 will not work. I wonder though if you perhaps have an IM306 in your 115U rack. If so, you are no longer dealing with Slot based addressing and instead useDIP switches of the IM306 to set I/O address of eachslot (card) in the rack. Please check if this is the case and see also chapter 6.2.2 of the S5-115U Programmable Controller manual for more on this. I hope this helps

JB2020 Posts: 9 Rating: (0)	Thanks Fritz, There is only one rack and it has a IM308. Rack layout is: PS CPU CP526 DI32 DI32 DI32 DO32 DO16 * IM308 I found out this morning that the 16pt output card is not used (not wired) so maybe the address range selected for the profibus slave was an oversight at the time and they used the same address as the last output card by mistake?? John
