Just to be clear, the "Profinet" port of the S7-1200 can (currently) only be used for PLC-PLC and PLC-HMI comms. AddingProfinet I/OController capability to the Ethernet port ofthe 1200 is planned for late 2010, but I don't know if any plans exists foraddition of Profinet I/O Device functionality (and it is in my humble oponion more likely that a DP Slave module comes out first for the 1200). As for "Profibus is yesterday", well let's just say that I woulddisagree with that assertion (and so does the market if the growth figures are anything to go by, more can found here: http://www.profibus.com/news-press/detail-view/article/node-growth-exceeds-expectations/). |

Yes, its still growing and still it is very reliable connection, but Siemens make a lot of effort to push Profinet into marked and its good standard for fast communications and real-time control. Profibus is relatively old standard and I think in a couple of years situation in marked will change completely. I set my bet for Profinet . |
