Is it possible to use both communication protocol using only one port integrated in CPU? I intend to connect the CPU to DCS using modbus TCP & to HMI using Profinet communication. Thanks Ace

It should be possible to run both connections over the same connection. You would just open a TCP connection on the CPU profinet port and float modbus on it.

When I used S7-200 port for using modbus RTU communication, it is not possible to use the same port for another protocol. So I am not really sure with these TCP communication

Thanks Ace I have several applications running today with Modbus/TCP and HMI via profinet on S7-1214's. It also works just fine on the S7-1212 at my desk. The profinet will be slower and the MB/TCP will be slower, but generally not too much that you should notice. If your plc scan (cycle) time drops too low, up the system overhead % from the default of 20% to as high as 40-60%. Be wary if you go any higher or your system may produce unexpected results or even fault.

fbelic Posts: 327 Rating: (28)	Greetings We regularly connect one or two PN CPUs, two PCs for HMI and Senron PAC3200 (via Modbus TCP to CPU) to an Ethernet switch and never had any problems with connectivity or speed. PROFINET in it specification inludes some percentage of bandwith for other Ethernet-based protocols. Best regards

The only thing I like to add is that the HMI will actually NOT use Profinet (IO) commmunications, but instead S7 communications (its Siemens propietary protocol but utilises TCP/IP).
